It's impressive...
Feb. 4th, 2008 01:00 pm...watching what must be an immense block of hotel rooms for GenCon evaporate over the course of half an hour.
I would have been more appreciative of the spectacle had I not been trying to book a room.
Pick hotel. Clicky clicky. Enter payment info. Clicky clicky. Verify. Yes, I read the cancellation policy. "We're sorry, but we sold your room out from under you." (Locks with timeouts. Not a hard concept.) Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
At least the site didn't implode under the strain, which I understand it's done in years past.
Fifth try actually secured me a room, so I can't gripe too much. (Looks to be a block south and several blocks east of the place I was last year. This puts it closer to the convention center, the supermarket, and the breakfast place. Score.)
Looking at the site now, there still appear to be some rooms left in walking distance. I don't expect that to last long.
